Supporting Teams Through Connection, Clarity, and Psychological Safety

At Action Steps Coaching, we work with teams as living systems. Teams are shaped not only by goals and structures, but by relationships, team dynamics, communication patterns, culture, and the level of psychological safety present. Team development often involves multiple modalities—such as team building, training, facilitation, consulting, mentoring, and team learning—each supporting teams in different ways and over different time horizons. Shorter-term approaches typically focus on skills, clarity, relationships, or insights, while team coaching is a longer-term, ICF-aligned partnership with the whole team that works with real-time dynamics, shared ownership, and collective accountability. We offer ICF-aligned team coaching, group coaching, team facilitation, team building, team consulting, and team learning programs, and we intentionally integrate these modalities when it best serves the team and the organization, supporting both immediate effectiveness and long-term sustainability.

Our Team-Based Services (ICF-Aligned Modalities)

Team Coaching (ICF ACTC–Certified)

Team coaching focuses on the team as a whole system, with particular attention to team dynamics—how the team relates, communicates, makes decisions, handles tension, and works together under pressure.

As an ICF ACTC–credentialed team coaching practice, we partner with teams over time to surface and work with:

  • Interaction patterns and relational habits
  • Power dynamics, roles, and unspoken norms
  • Communication breakdowns and recurring tensions
  • Trust, psychological safety, and accountability
  • How the team responds to change, stress, and complexity

Rather than fixing individuals, team coaching supports the collective awareness and capability of the team, leading to more sustainable performance and healthier collaboration.

Group Coaching

Group coaching brings individuals together around a shared role, challenge, or developmental focus, while honoring each person’s unique context.

Group coaching supports:

  • Peer learning and shared reflection
  • Skill development through dialogue and practice
  • Increased connection and mutual support
  • Perspective-taking across roles and functions

It is especially effective for leadership cohorts, managers, and cross-functional groups.

Team Facilitation

(Including World Café, Mastermind, and Human Library formats)

Team facilitation supports teams when the primary need is alignment, shared understanding, collective insight, or shared decision-making.

We facilitate:

  • Strategic conversations and team offsites
  • World Café–style dialogues to surface collective intelligence through structured conversation, allowing ideas to cross-pollinate and shared meaning to emerge across the group
  • Mastermind-style sessions that combine structure, best practices, accountability, peer insight, and reflective inquiry
  • Human Library–style dialogues, creating space for lived experience, perspective-taking, and deeper understanding across differences
  • Values, vision, and purpose conversations
  • Cross-cultural and cross-functional dialogue, role plays
  • Difficult or high-stakes conversations that require psychological safety

Facilitation creates the container; the team creates the content.

Team Building (Team Development Modality)

Team building is a distinct team development modality focused on strengthening relationships, trust, and connection through shared experience.

Thoughtfully designed team building:

  • Builds trust and rapport
  • Strengthens interpersonal understanding
  • Supports psychological safety
  • Reinforces shared identity and belonging

Our team building work is purposeful and reflective, not performative. Activities are chosen to support real team needs and are often integrated with coaching or facilitation to deepen learning and impact.

Team Coaching Programs & Training

In addition to coaching and facilitation, we offer team development programs and training, which may include:

  • Psychological safety and trust-building
  • Communication and feedback skills
  • Leadership presence and relational intelligence
  • Intercultural collaboration and inclusion
  • Navigating change and complexity as a team

Training provides shared language and frameworks; coaching supports integration into daily team life.

An Integrated, Ethical Approach to Team Modalities

According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), team coaching, group coaching, facilitation, training, and team building are distinct modalities.
They can also be ethically and intentionally integrated when roles are clear and competencies are present.

At Action Steps Coaching:

  • We are trained, certified, and experienced across these modalities
  • We clearly contract which role is being used—and when
  • We integrate methods to serve the team, not the method

This allows teams to:

  • Think together (facilitation)
  • Learn together (training)
  • Connect together (team building)
  • Develop together (coaching)

Intercultural & Global Team Expertise

Many teams today work across cultures, time zones, and professional norms. Our work is informed by a PhD in Intercultural Communication, ongoing research, and lived experience working within and alongside diverse, global teams.

We bring an intercultural lens to all team work, supporting teams to:

  • Navigate differences with curiosity and respect
  • Make implicit cultural and organizational norms visible
  • Address misalignment without blame or defensiveness
  • Build inclusive, workable team agreements that honor difference while enabling performance

This approach helps teams move beyond misunderstanding and assumption toward clarity, trust, and collaboration, and is especially valuable for global organizations, intercultural teams, and diverse leadership groups.
